Since Pickering Town Centre opened its doors in 1972 it has grown and flourished and the Centre continues to grow to accommodate the needs of our thriving community.
- The Grand Opening in October of 1972, known then as Sheridan Mall, covered 421,000 square feet and housed more than 80 stores.
- In 1985, Phase II was completed which expanded and renovated the mall and gave us the Eaton's Wing with the Eaton's department store being officially opened by Timothy Eaton, a direct descendant of the department store's founder.
The Hudson's Bay Company opened
Pickering
Town Centre's Bay store in
May 2000 in the former Eaton's location.
- In 1988, Pickering Town Centre expanded further with the Sears Wing.
- A final expansion in 1998 gave us the popular Famous Players theatres.

But Pickering Town Centre is more than a place to shop. In recent years the mall has placed more emphasis on its services. With over 200 shops and services, it is one of the biggest Shopping Centres in Ontario. From Guest Services, Customer with Child Parking, Gift-Wrapping Service to Gift Certificates, the MallWalker Program and the Security Team, Pickering Town Centre is a great place for people to meet, relax and of course...shop. |
The future holds nothing but promise, and Pickering Town Centre has stepped into the new Millennium as a strong and supportive community leader. Believing that helping schools helps the community, the Centre hosts an annual Choirs Festival with over 40 schools competing each year. There is always a buzz at the Shopping Centre with events that range from mall-wide sidewalk sales to appearances from children's television personalities. Pickering Town Centre believes in keeping the community in touch with each other. Space within the Centre is allocated for local community groups and charitable events. "Wish" money from the fountains is donated to various charities within the community. In support of the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation, Pickering Town Centre has sponsored the Pickering Town Centre's Mayors' Charity Classic golf event since1995 raising approximately $1,000,000 for thousands of patients cared for at the Health Centre each year. |
Recently, Pickering Town Centre again updated its look with upgraded benches, waste receptacles, planters and a renovation of the public washrooms. As well as improving the aesthetics of the inside of the Centre, in May 1999 Pickering Town Centre added a 17 foot tall, highly polished stainless steel sculpture, entitled Dreamscape, a gift of public art for the community. |
Pickering Town Centre has made changes to the interior and exterior of the Shopping Centre over the years but it continues to remain a Centre focused on the community. With the support of its loyal customers, Pickering Town Centre plans to continue to grow, expand and flourish with the community. |
